ISLE OF DOGS is a charming, beach cottage created to host dogs that is only a 7 minutes’ walk to the ocean (.3 miles) and the intracoastal waterway (.4 miles). This 3-bdr/2-bath one-story house is renovated and nicely decorated, with an open floor plan between the living areas and kitchen. The back deck opens to a shaded backyard surrounded by a 6-foot privacy fence, with a vintage fire hydrant and its very own poop station!

ISLE OF DOGS is specifically designed with dog owners in mind (although everyone is welcome, dogs or no dogs). We do everything we can to create the perfect vacation for your entire family, which may include up to 6 people and 4 dogs (please read details under doggie details). Taking a vacation no longer has to mean leaving your furry family members behind. At ISLE OF DOGS, dogs are not just allowed – they are welcomed as our VIPs. If you love your dogs why stay at a place that just allows them?

THE COTTAGE:

ISLE OF DOGS is carpet-free, with luxury vinyl plank (LVP) being the only flooring throughout the entire interior of the cottage. Every room has at least one open space for a dog bed or crate. The living room includes a large 55’ Smart TV (no cable or local channels but enjoy Netflix), oversized leather sofa, two chairs and a large variety of board games. Blazing-fast Wi-Fi (gigabit fiber optic internet) is available throughout the house. Smart TVs include Disney+, Netflix and Amazon Prime.

The fully equipped kitchen includes a refrigerator, electric range, microwave, pots, pans, cooking tools and utensils. The coffee station includes a Keurig K-Duo machine that is perfect for coffee lovers. We have Google Nest available, guest may unplugged it if not comfortable. The whole family can enjoy meals together at either the large dining room table or the back patio table.

All bedrooms are decorated with simplicity and comfort in mind. Both bathrooms provide walk-in showers with hand-held shower head in. the master, please note the master bathroom is on the smaller side but the shared bathroom is very large. An outdoor shower on the back deck (with hot water) is perfect for rinsing off the sand after a long day at the beach!

The laundry room with washer and dryer help you keep things fresh from arrival through departure.

DECK AND BACKYARD:

The large porch and backyard aren’t just for the dogs. Beautiful oak trees shade the yard so it is enjoyable to sit out in the swing (or lay out in the hammock) even on hot sunny days, while our beautiful fire pit allows you to enjoy the outdoors even on cool nights. String lights surround the back deck and create the perfect ambience after sunset.

***Please note that the She Shed in the yard is no longer be available for guests after November 2021***

DOGGIE DETAILS:

Oak Island is well-known not only for being a family-oriented beach but also one of the most dog-friendly beaches in North Carolina. Dogs that are leashed are permitted YEAR ROUND on Oak Island beaches, and dogs are allowed off their leash from October 15 through March 15. Oak Island also offers two different dog parks for your furry friends to enjoy, one that is only a few blocks away from the house.

ISLE OF DOGS welcomes up to 4 dogs. We do not discriminate based on breed or size, but due to the size of our cottage, we are unable to accommodate more than 2 XL-breed dogs (100+ pounds) per booking. All dogs must be housebroken and up-to-date on shots and must be crated when left in the house unattended (exceptions to crate requirement may be made by host on a case by case situation). Crates and food/water bowls are provided for your convenience (please contact the host to ensure crate sizes will work for your dogs). We are unable to accommodate animals other than dogs at this time. If you are bringing 4 dogs please note that we will limit the human occupancy to 4 people as we want to ensure that our cottage does not feel too crowed for our guests.

AMENITIES AND RESERVATION DETAILS:

Check-in after 4pm / check-out before 10am (additional time for thorough cleaning required due to COVID-19). Odorban, Microban and Lysol products to clean the cottage.

We are proud to allow dogs on furniture, so all guests (even if not bringing a dog) must bring their own linens (sheets, pillow cases and quilt/duvet). If you prefer not to bring your own linens, we can connect you with a local company (Sharon's Linens in Oak Island) that will deliver linens to your door upon arrival. We provide bath towels (for both people and dogs), bath mats, toilet paper, soap and hair dryer. Guests should bring their own shampoo, conditioner, other toiletries and beach towels. (If you forget your shampoo, conditioner or bath soap we do have small bottles available on site that we refill for guests to use in case of emergency).

Two beach cruiser bikes are available for your riding pleasure.

Finally, ISLE OF DOGS is not suitable for someone who is allergic to dogs. (If you are still reading this listing, we doubt that is you!)

There is never a shortage of fun and memorable things to see and do when you visit the beaches and maritime towns of the Brunswick Islands. No matter what you choose to do – by water, land or sky – these exciting attractions will have you and your family enjoying every minute of your stay.

Oak Island is located at the "mouth" of Cape Fear River which is the reason for our dark blue water. As a south facing beach Oak Island has amazing sunsets because the sun sets on the ocean or the beach and sometimes if there is ocean spray or rougher seas it illuminates the sunsets making it breathtaking.

HOUSE RULES:

*Guests must: (1) read our entire listing and rules section, (2) be 25 years old to book and stay with us, we may consider an exception on case by case, with written approval before booking and (3) sign our rental agreement shortly after booking and before check-in

*Check-in after 4pm / check-out before 10am. The booking guest who is listed on the booking summary must check-in before any other guests may enter the property and must be physically present at check-out. Prior to arrival booking party must be sure that guests staying at the property are listed in the agreement signed by booking party (this includes human and pet guests). Late check-outs will receive a 10-minute grace period. Late check-outs of more than 10 minutes will be subject to a $100 fine and an additional $100 for each additional hour.

*During stay: •notify host of any issues or concerns as soon at they arise • be respectful of neighbors and neighborhood • treat house as you would your own (or better) • observe quiet hours 10pm – 8am • rinse off all sand thoroughly with outdoor shower or rinse station before entering cottage • provided bath towels may not be used for beach towels or makeup removal • no food or drink in bedrooms • smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited inside or outside of cottage ($250 fee) • park only in driveway (not on street) • lock doors when property unattended • no unregistered guests or visitors at any time ($250 fee per person per occurrence) • no disconnecting or tampering with wireless router, security cameras, smart lock or other electronics • no moving furniture • no illegal activity of any kind.

*Prior to checkout: • thoroughly wash and dry dishes and put away in cabinets • clean out and wipe down refrigerator • deposit all trash and recycling in outdoor bins • pick up and properly dispose of all pet waste • clean and return all dog crates, bicycles, beach supplies and other borrowed household items to original locations • sweep floors to "broom clean" condition • load and start laundry cycle for white towels • turn off all lights, close all windows and lock all doors including side gate with lock.

*Any damages or additional cleaning fees caused by guests (including excessive dog fur and pet waste) will be deducted from the security deposit (or billed directly to the guest) and reported to Airbnb or other site, as applicable.

*Security deposit required of $300. Deposit to be processed by host on guest's credit card. Deposit will be taken our 3 days prior to check in and returned in full 3 days after check out, absent damages. 

Any intentional violation of house rules will result in termination of the remaining booking without refund.

*** We HIGHLY recommend that ALL guests obtain trip insurance for their own protection and peace of mind as we do not have any control over the weather or things that may occur on your end that impact your trip. ***

DISCLAIMERS ABOUT THE COTTAGE:

*We are a 1,068 sq cottage with a lot of character from our not perfect yet unique brick driveway to our swing that was built by the original owner's of the cottage.

*We are not a luxury stay nor do we intend to be, our goal is to be a comfortable, simple and cozy cottage.

*Our master bathroom is on the small size while our main bathroom is quite spacious. 

*We do have a phenomenal cleaning team but given how dog friendly our property is and the fact that they are humans there is a possibility of a human error, if there is an issue during your stay let us know and they will come back to address it! 

*We do not have any control over things that happen outside our property lines or the weather. 

The host will be available through phone, text and email. In case of an emergency a local team member can assist in person.

 

Rates & Availability

Cancellation Policy: Fifty percent (50.00%) of the total booking charges will be refunded if the cancellation is made more than 30 days prior to the arrival date of the reservation. For cancellations made within 30 days prior to the arrival date, no refund will be issued.
